Roy and his cousin Melda meeting for the first time.
Today we are celebrating my step dad Roy’s 90th birthday. He was a WWII VET and a POW in STALAG 17. I shared briefly his story yesterday and so many of you commented and sent Roy birthday wishes that he asked me to thank each and every one of you for your kind words. Here is a link if you are interested in seeing that story and some of the most powerful comments and even poems I have ever seen:

Today I thought appropriate to put together a collage of photos of Roy.

Happy Birthday, Roy! Thanks for sharing bits of his life experiences with us. The world has changed so much in 90 years and he has had a front row seat (and has also played a part).

The world has indeed. Roy is grateful for that. He really appreciates everything modern. He came from a very poor background as my mother did too and when I hear their stories, my eyes get so big just thinking about what they both went through. You will hardly ever see them without smiles on their faces and I am really serious about that!

Thank you! They went to Niagara Falls on one of their trips and loved it up there! I wish I knew you back then. I would have had them go spy out your garden!

Love to see the photos. Under Wallace huh? I bet he was an interesting person to work under.

I have not asked him much about that era. I guess I really should. Most of Roy’s time was spent working with Veterans and making sure they get what they need. Governor Wallace was definitely a colorful character in the south. I had the pleasure of meeting him once.
