The Lady And All Her Mysteries

Taken from the peep hole of the lady of the lake boat!

Taken from the peep hole of the lady of the lake boat!

Do not let this title catch you off guard!  The lady does exist as a boat and the mysteries are real. Recently on one of my many trips to eastern Washington, I went on an all day excursion on a voyage to the head of Lake Chelan.

Lake Chelan was carved out of glacial ice about 17,000 years ago.

Let me give you perspective of the mysteries of Lake Chelan.  If you stood atop of the Pyramid Peak (8245 ft), overlooking Lake Chelan, and walked three miles straight out, due east, and looked to the bottom of Lucerne Basin (386 ft below sea level), you’d be looking in the deepest gorge in North America.  Obviously this chasm is difficult to view, but no less stunning.

This campground is near Lucerne where located is the deepest gorge in North America.

In the early days of settlers to this area, dreams were similar to the Gold Rush.  These fantasies vanished  quickly though, and the Lake became more known for its intense natural beauty that brought tourists from far and wide.  Lake Chelan is not only spectacular, but pristine because no roads even to this day have been built to reach the beautiful town of Stehekin.

Looking out over the grandeur of Lake Chelan is absolutely breathtaking.

As you travel on the lady, you will see desert mountains that turn to forests.  You will also feel the weather change through the rough terrain with a drop of a hat as climate changes are felt from the lower part of Lake Chelan where one begins the journey through the hills that finally take you through the deepness of the Cascade Mountain Range.  Along the way, Mother Nature treats you to views only painted by the eyes of famous artists to the degree of the beauty that are so well deserved of this area.

The clear waters of Lake Chelan make for a majestic ride up river to the town of Stehekin.

There are also very rough patches of mountain peaks that make your jaw drop from its sheer enormity that probably can not be viewed anywhere else in the world.  This experience can be seen through my photos, but to live it is oh so much more worth it.  I hope my words put a desire in your heart to come to the Lady and see the mysteries she will bestow upon you…

To see this place in real time is amazing!

Thank you Sue! It really is. I have been waiting to collect my thoughts on how to write this post. I wanted to add enough insight and history to bring interest, but also not to distract from the photos….I would hope folks read this because this lake is pretty incredible!!! Thank you again for being a faithful follower!

The town is alive and well. It has a small community that live up there year round and cater to tourism. The boat actually stops a couple of other times too. One of the stops is for a town that hosts a popular stop for Lutherans . It is a community that operates on the premise of everyone works, eats, and plays together. It is quite a destination for those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and step back in time per Se.

Beautiful! The US is really so diverse geographically. Just about every place you might want to see somewhere else can be enjoyed here. Like your gorgeous lake and mirrored mountains resonate all that I love about the Swiss landscape. Thanks for sharing!

What a picturesque landscape that is surrounding Lake Chelan! It is beautiful! Is Stehekin the final destination for the boat? Must be special living in a place where you have to cross the lake with a boat to get there:) Wonder if the lake is frozen during winter, or is it too warm for that?

Stehekin is the last spot the boat stops, but you can go further via boat and hike all through the area. Many folks go here to enjoy the natural surroundings spending their vacations annually here. It is so amazing here. I think I could safely say you would really love this place !!!

I absolutely believe I would love the place. It looks amazing. Wonder how the people of Stehekin do during winter if the lake freezes up with getting supplies etc. Intriguing:)

I met the manager of the local establishment in Stehekin. I will give her a call and ask her tomorrow and report back to you! Lol. They are really that easy to talk to up there!!!

People from smaller places are always so enjoyable:) I guess they are used to everyone talking to each other. Not like in the big cities where you don’t even talk to the person next to you on the train:)
